John G. Goodwin — Accredited Family Mediator, CFL Panel Member
I have practiced family law since 1975, and am part of a leading family law boutique firm in the Ottawa region, MacKinnon & Phillips (over 200 years of collective experience).
Over the years, family mediation and collaborative family law have become my focus as I believe these kinds of approaches yield the best overall results and bring clients through stressful times as well as possible.
As a family mediator since 1982 (an accredited family mediator for over 25 years) and collaborative family lawyer since 2002, I have long been committed to alternative dispute resolution. I was the first President of the Ontario Association for Family Mediation (the first one in Canada) in 1982. I have trained many lawyers and mental health professionals in alternative dispute resolution for family and other conflicts where non-adversarial approaches are appropriate.
As part of my continuing interest in this approach and better serving the evolving needs of my clients, I am also pursuing a certification in elder mediation as issues around the care of our aging population (accommodation, daily care, medical care, finances, capacity, security, etc.) become increasingly prevalent.
With an office conveniently located in downtown Ottawa and on several OC Transpo routes, I serve clients in Ottawa, Kanata, Arnprior, Manotick, Osgoode, Kars, Orleans, Gloucester and beyond.
